More About

Behind the weepy, feel-good movie The Horse Whisperer is the true story of a man who overcame his difficult past and forged a future for himself with the help of a therapeutic relationship with horses. Buck, winner of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Documentary Competition Audience Award, tells the story of Buck Brannaman, the real-life horse whisperer and inspiration for Robert Redford's character in the 1988 film. The documentary follows Brannaman as he gives clinics around the country on natural horsemanship while exploring his abusive past as a traveling child rodeo performer and rope-trick artist. Just as he was helpless, he now aids the helpless, practicing natural horsemanship that eschews physical punishment in favor of a variety of psychological techniques that date back centuries. As Brannaman says in the film's introduction, "Rather than helping people with horse problems, I'm helping horses with people problems." The film shows at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50.
