More About

We can't tell you how often we've been watching the news over the past thirtysomething years and thought to ourselves, "Man, this crazy cult would make a killer cartoon!" Whether it's the Peoples Temple or the Branch Davidians, Heaven's Gate or the FLDS, you have to admit they're all ripe for South Park-style parody. Don't Tell My Wife I'm A Cult Leader, a locally made cartoon from creators Todd Steinberg and Matt Rox, seeks to fill the void of American cult-humor programming, with a plot involving fictional cult leader Floyd Landers -- who looks a little like a grown up version of Daria crush object Trent Lane -- his unsuspecting wife and their small-town Texas community. We hope it's not set in Arlen, 'cause we could really see King of the Hill's Luanne Platter being susceptible to this kind of thing. See the six-years-in-the-making pilot 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kessler Theater, 1230 W. Davis St., followed by a Q&A session with Steinberg, Rox and co-producer Andy Hogue. Admission is free; the indoctrination lasts a lifetime. Visit dont-tell.my/wife for more info and a preview of the show.
Sat., Sept. 3, 8 p.m., 2011
