You make a good point.
Many Republicans likely won't see a dime from Social Security.
That's what an off-the-grid, non-taxpayer lifestyle buys you.
-
09/10/2011 10:20:00 AM
It's good to see Republicans denouncing each other like that.
-
09/10/2011 10:19:00 AM
The reason is because, here in the US, we have an obligation to "provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty".
It's called the "establishment clause" and, according to the Constitution, it's the reason why we have a government at all.
So, for you to complain about how easy life is for people who are incapable of earning a living is not just unAmerican, it's downright inhuman.

It's old news ... it's the truth ... and nothing is being done about it!!! I hope Perry shakes the @#@?$ out of Washington!

If you cannot manage your own money to provide a return better than SS you need to live in a different country. The USA is designed to reward people who want to succeed and work. If you want the Government to take care of you for the rest of your life, including your savings, you are in the wrong place. A dumb ass could put their money in a CD and make a better return than SS.
-
09/05/2011 9:26:00 PM
There are many people out there that get money form SS and never put a dime into the system. Why? I have worked for over 30 years pumping money into the system and there is no doubt in my mind that SS will not be there for me when I retire. I have to secure my future expenses so I am investing and saving for the future.
-
09/05/2011 1:54:00 PM
Boy as he got you fooled. He will say whatever he thinks you want to hear although will do nothing. You put SS in private accounts that most people cannot handle and then watch the bread lines.
-

This is old tired news and so is tricky ricky.

Null 09/04/2011 2:48:00 AM
Let's think about ANYONE that put ONE PENNY in S.S. with the understanding that they get paid back later (without a CHOICE of having it deducted from their paycheck, either). Anyone in the private sector that takes someones money in exchange for a product or service that never materializes, is guilty of FRAUD and THEFT. Why not the GOVERNMENT???
-
Null 09/04/2011 2:44:00 AM
Never as low as obamy.
-

well, prove that he's wrong before you try to knock him. how many of us really think we're going to get our money back from ss? really?!
-

I want a Social Security system where the money *I* put in comes back to benefit *me*. Social Security originally, as you know, was not designed this way but rather for those working now to support those who had already retired, with the idea that later those who work now would be supported by newer workers. As more people have been retiring (or been retired) than are working, the system begins to erode and eventually winds up broek. I don't understand why we all cannot agree, at least, that such an erosion requires a change in the system - with urgency.
Just as we plant vegetation to prevent erosion of the soil, if later the soil begins to erode due to a new issue we wouldn't just let the erosion continue until the soil is gone, we'd take action to try something new to prevent it and maybe put some of it back. Let's try something new with Social Security, like converting over to a system that holds OUR money for US when we retire. It would have to be phased in to work.

No one is talking about taking anything from people who are 50+ yrs old . It is the young people who should have the option. Please get educated on this before you dismiss the idea. The Govt. is not your best long term investment option.

How is Rick Perry like a limbo dance? "How low can you go, how low can you go?"

Wanna knock Guv. Quickdraw of Greathare out of the POTUS posse? Stand up at EVERY public appearance and quote from his book. Ask questions, starting with "reading from your book, Guv'ner..." And make placard and billboards with BOOK TITLE, and PAGE NUMBER, ALONG WITH HIS QUOTE, regarding the issue at hand. He will be permanently back home at Ye Old (and still smoldering) Haunted Governors' Mansion in time for passing out Halloween candy to those who dare to eat it. I can hear the ghostly howls of Miz Ann and Molly already!

-
BC 09/02/2011 2:07:00 PM
Anybody who knows anything about SS knows it has a horrible return on investment, is routinely robbed by the government to do other things with the money, relies on youjng people to put new funds in to pay for us old folks (definition of a Ponzi scheme), forces Americans to invest their money in it whether they want to or not, and finally it is so far afield from what FDR intended it to be, it would make even him roll over in his grave. Pahse the thing out and let young people decide where they want to invest their money.

what makes the tea party traitors? is it because they want a balanced budget and responsible spending. you know nothing of the tea party or its goals. educate yourself and quit repeating what the obozo regime keeps telling you. Obozo has lied to us everytime he opens his mouth.
-
09/01/2011 9:53:00 PM
funny thing is everyone is acting like he is the only one who has ever said that, this is just more of obozo's dirty politics, the very politics that he called on to be stopped and he continues to do this. Rick Perry will be a great prez and he will be able to tackle the tuff issues, unlike obozo.

-

You have horrible language for a 40 year old.
I agree that SS is broken and should end. People need to save money on their own, not rely on the government to save for them. Saying this however, we have to end it in a systematic approach.
Rick Perry is a horrible governor non the less. Education issues, immigration issues, and financial issues are way out of control. What is he doing to help our state? Ask yourself that.

I agree 100%. I also live in Texas and the man's a nut job. He has done nothing to help the people of Texas. My partner has to pay over $1300.00 each month for his health insurance with blue cross and blue shield. That's more than our house payment.
He likes to hear his own voice to bad it makes no sense to anyone.
-
Sonnys1980cc 09/01/2011 3:01:00 PM
Even the smart senior citizens know that the SS is flawed. So In opinion SS can be repaired but it needs to be setup so that it can't be touched by government. there is no reason why SS should ever be broke period.

No dumbass, he was put there because Bush ran for President, remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is like watching those late night talk shows when there is a run for presidency and they take to the streets and ask normal people who is the V.P of the US and they have no idea. James, were you on that show??????????
-
09/01/2011 2:14:00 PM
Understand his point morons. At the current status of Social Security now, we are paying alot of money into a system that will not be there "current status" by 2017. So with that in mind, what the "F" do you think he really meant dumbass? I am 40 years old so by that grim look ahead there will be no "F'n" Social Security for me according to that stat. Now do I really want to give my hard earned $ to the "F'n" government? Nope!
Lets get a real story going. Where is the damn transparency in our government. How is it that when they keep balancing the budget we have no idea of what they are balancing. Where is all the money going? How come we citizens can't get a look at this? We're not worthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
09/01/2011 2:08:00 PM
Perrys still the best choice for POTUS we can`t afford 4 more yrs of reckless demo spending, my vote goes to Perry put that in your crackpipe and smoke it liberal demo dumbasses!
-
09/01/2011 1:51:00 PM
There is another reason Perry was repeatedly re-elected in Texas. The Texas Democrats insist on nominating individuals whose policy stances that make them unelectable in Texas. You can not nominate a Northeastern Liberal in Texas and expect that person to win a state-wide office.
-
09/01/2011 5:22:00 AM
I live in Texas and I think Perry is one stupid, self serving, blowhard mother fucking brainless, moron.
-
09/01/2011 3:16:00 AM
We are Texans and the only reason he has been elected governor here is his political machine backed by wealthy texans and corporations. Once elected its basically scam as much cash as possible, and give the wealthy and corps anything they want. Totally worthless human.
-
08/31/2011 10:14:00 PM
Does this guy really want to be elected or is he just unaware of what he is saying. Politicians can no longer hide from their past but this may be taking it to higher measures.
-
08/31/2011 9:01:00 PM
perrys a scammer and he is trying to scam the masses. Not me brother.
-
08/31/2011 8:59:00 PM
perry is suppose to be smart enough to be president but he is just playing to a base saying all this about SS.Think about what it would be without it.People wouldn't save for retirement.Sure, some would, but what about the millions that don't.Think about it and stop shooting from he hip like perry and taking many of you for fools.
-
08/31/2011 8:55:00 PM
opt out of SS, watch and see how the poor pile up.You maybe able to do well with investments but if you have any they have lost ground. You'll have people opting out and losing their shirts and then they will have nothing and become wards of the state. Not good.
-
08/31/2011 8:55:00 PM

It was not a Ponzi Scheme until the Federal Government started stealing from it.
-
08/31/2011 8:31:00 PM
Perry has it right. SS is a joke, and it is a Ponzi Scheme in its current incarnation. The people working today pay for the retired people right now. There is no trust fund.
Let us be able to opt out of SS, much like Obamacare is being ruled unConstitutional. We shouldnt be forced to participate. Let us keep that 15% for our own 401k's.
