There's one subject that parents find particularly difficult to address with their kids, and we can understand why. Not many people look forward to having "the talk" with the youngsters, but it's necessary unless you want the kids to consult the Internet. We can only imagine what they'll find there. If only someone had taught the cast of unknowing adolescents in Spring Awakening a thing or two about sex, they wouldn't be singing "Totally Fucked" and "The Guilty Ones." Don't let the musical numbers fool you; this production about a group of adolescents discovering their sexuality in late 19th century Germany tackles serious subjects like homosexuality, abortion and sexual abuse, but the music, by Steven Slater and Duncan "Barely Breathing" Sheik, is as current as the issues continue to be. Wendla, a girl whose mother hasn't told her where babies come from, and Melchior, a boy who knows more than most his age, give in to their attraction, but with a consequence they didn't see coming. Like Wendla, Melchior's friend Moritz hasn't been properly educated on the birds and bees, much to his detriment. See if young love, or passion, can survive turmoil when Spring Awakening comes to the Addison Theater Center, 15650 Addison Road. See the rock musical at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through October 23. There's an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, October 22. Tickets are $20 to $50. Call 972-450-6232 or visit watertowertheatre.org.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 22, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 30. Continues through Oct. 23, 2011
