Diana Al-Hadid is making some of the boldest, most interesting pieces of any living artist, creating works inspired by a mélange of ancient mythologies, Gothic and Middle Eastern architecture, cosmology and physics. Her visionary creations resemble upended cathedrals, castles and Towers of Babel (See: “Self Melt” or “Spun of the Limits of My Lonely Waltz”). Al-Hadid’s ghostly, otherworldly constructions of stairs, labyrinths or pipe organs seem plucked from some parallel sepia-toned dream world imagined by Guillermo del Toro or Tim Burton. The Nasher Sculpture Center commissioned an installation by the Syrian-born American artist as a part of the Corner Gallery’s Sightings series of small-scale installations and architectural “interventions.” Sightings: Diana Al-Hadid runs through January 15 in the Corner Gallery at the Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora St. Ticket prices vary. Call 214-242-5100 or visit nashersculpturecenter.org for more information.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 27. Continues through Jan. 15, 2011
