Steven Levine started chasing storms way back in 1977, nearly 20 years before Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton made it cool (did that really happen?), and 30 before Reed Timmer and Sean Casey made it cool again with Storm Chasers. In fact, Levine realized storm chasing’s mainstream appeal well before the rest of us, kick-starting the tornado tourism industry with Tornado Alley Safari Tours in 1995. If driving toward tornadoes still sounds a little intense for you, try The Joy of Storm Hunting, a new exhibit at the Lago Vista Gallery that collects images and stories from Levine’s 30-odd years chasing bad skies. Catch it through November 18 in the safe, wind- and hail-free confines of the Richland College library, 12800 Abrams Road. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Visit richlandcollege.edu/gallery for more info.
Mondays-Thursdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. Starts: Oct. 31. Continues through Nov. 18, 2011
