Behind the Canvas

I’ve seen Billy Zinser’s work, and it’s totally fabbers. And yes, that’s totally a word. His art is abstract and overly textured like chunky streams of paint spilling forth on a canvas. I know what you’re thinking, and no, I didn’t go to art school, but that doesn’t stop me from saying his shit is so cool you just want to touch it. Some of it you actually can … sparingly. In addition to wall art, Zinser makes Macrodons. They’re handmade and hand-painted plastic toys that will blow your dumb old kitten figurines right off the shelf. Billy’s current show, Studio Visits, is on exhibit at The Public Trust. In addition to the main show, The Public Trust will set up the small room to look like Zinser’s workspace and give us a glimpse of his process. But if you really want to get up in them guts, you can log on to The Public Trust website, trustthepublic.com, where you can see time-lapse videos of Zinser making stuff. The Public Trust, 2919 Commerce St., is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon-6 p.m. Saturday.
Wednesdays-Fridays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Nov. 2. Continues through Dec. 3, 2011
