More About

Museums generally have many rules: no drinking, no smoking, no photography, no loud talking, no touching, no fun. It’s a lot like elementary school — not a place where anyone necessarily wants to go, but in the end you’re glad you did. If you can follow along with that stunning piece of logic, you’ll understand why art exhibitions at coffeehouses are more our speed. Sipping a hot cuppa joe is de rigueur and some joints still cling to their musty, antiquated smoking sections. The McKinney Avenue Contemporary is bringing contemporary art to the masses on a monthly basis at the hip Mercantile Coffee House. This month’s artist, Irby Pace, revisits his youthful fears and dreams with Sandcastles and Time-Machines. Pace recreates childhood memories as paper installations, then inserts photos of his smiling mug for scale. The exhibition is on display through December 3 at Mercantile Coffee House, 1800 Main St., Suite 100. The coffeehouse is open seven days a week. Visit the-mac.org.
Mondays-Fridays, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sundays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Nov. 1. Continues through Nov. 30, 2011
