Little Black Dress

Don't Worry Baby EP "Exploding Plastic/Idol Records"

It's said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, that's crap. Ripping someone off is merely the easiest way to tip the cap to an influential artist.

In the spirit of inventively paying tribute to one of the great acts in pop history, Dallas dream-pop act Little Black Dress have merged Brian Wilson's sunny world of pop perfection into their hazy, atmospheric realm for an effect that's hopelessly pleasing. "Don't Worry Baby" is the lead tune from the limited-edition vinyl single that also features a new, original tune from Toby Pipes and Nolan Thies on the B-side.

For the digital edition, there are a couple of extra songs thrown in for (really) good measure. "To Do With You" and "Stations" help to continue establishing Little Black Dress as one of the finest acts reviving the shoegazing, somewhat synth-leaning and highly melodic tones of alternative kingpins from the '90s. Of course, we're well into a new millennium, and aping the Cocteau Twins isn't as cute as it was a couple of years ago. Thankfully, Pipes and Thies, who produced the tracks, aren't into being cute and flattering as much as they're into making things sound really damn good.
