You should never — ever — Google the phrase “people dressed as turkeys.” I know in hindsight that’s fairly obvious, but I had the best of intentions as I typed that in, and I was rewarded with images that will forever taint the way I think about Big Bird. Feathers just should not be used for those purposes. And so, as the good people of the Dallas YMCA and Capital One Bank attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people dressed as turkeys ever assembled, I will try to think back to a simpler time when that would have been purely a wholesome endeavor, not subject to the spoils of the search engine. Whether you choose to dress as a turkey or just show up in your North Face and tennis shoes, the 44th Annual Turkey Trot is the perfect pre-emptive strike for the onslaught of gluttony you’ll wade through to get to January. If you haven’t already registered for the 5K walk/run or the 8-mile run, you can sign up beginning at 7 a.m. on race day in the underground parking area at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla St. Registration is $15 for kids 6 and under and $30 to $35 for adults.
