In 2003, artist Jeremy Red moved to Seattle, and the art world witnessed an unfortunate hiatus. The Dallas native and UNT grad had previously painted narratives incorporating pop culture elements, text, bold strokes of color and seemingly lighthearted drawings into engaging works that grabbed the viewer. Once out of Texas, Red stopped showing his work. Catching Up is his first exhibition since 2003 and features two larger works as well as a collection of 12-inch-square paintings. The pieces serve as unconventional portraits, and imagining what relationship inspired each of them is just one of the elements that makes Red's work so entertaining, intense and flat-out addictive.
