God forbid you should talk during a performance at your local theater, let alone boo, shout or cheer. Heck, at the movies, even clapping will get you a few cocked eyebrows. Thankfully, for those of us who prefer to react to a performance, there is an alternative. Theatre Britain presents Dick Whittington, a traditional British pantomime, or “panto,” as the Limeys call it, at which audience members are encouraged to catcall or cheer. Adapted by Jackie Mellor-Guin, Dick Whittington is a rags-to-riches tale of its eponymous hero and his rise from poor stock to becoming the Lord Mayor of London. In the course of his adventures he befriends a ratting cat, falls in love, goes into exile in Morocco and returns once more, with songs, jokes, and audience participation throughout. The show runs from December 3 through 28 at the Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 Avenue H, Plano. Show times are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays, and 7:30 p.m. Fridays. Additional shows take place Christmas week. For details and additional show times, call 972-490-4202 or visit theatre-britain.com. Tickets are $19 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and $9 for children younger that 14.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:30 p.m.; Sundays, 1:30 & 4:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 9. Continues through Dec. 28, 2011
