Cows on Ice

Remember the Dallas Freeze? OK, we’ll help you out. They were one of six original members of the Central Hockey League in its inaugural season in 1992. Still no clue? That’s probably because they closed up shop just three years later. (Turns out the Dallas Stars coming to town in 1993 was bad for business.) Despite the departures and dissolution of several clubs like the Freeze throughout the years, the CHL has not only stayed alive but expanded to 14 teams — one of which is right in our backyard. Yup, the Texas Brahmas are serving up mid-level pro hockey at the NYTEX Sports Center, 8851 Ice House Drive in North Richland Hills. Their 7 p.m. match against the Laredo Bucks is the best time to see what they have to offer, as they’re opening up the ice to allow everyone to skate (free skates provided) with players following the game. Just watch out for us. We’ll be taking the Zamboni out for a spin. Call 817-336-4423 or visit brahmas.com for tickets ($13 to $35) and more information.
