The rivalry between the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings isn’t quite as tense or meaningful as it was when the sweaters with the grand names of Yzerman, Belfour, Federov and Hatcher were skating around the rink, battling for Western Conference supremacy in the late 1990s and into the new century. Of course, it seemed as though the ferocity might return to the dormant rivalry when the Stars met the Wings in the 2008 Conference Finals, only to get creamed by the octopus throwers from the north. Regardless, when a Stars fan views a season’s schedule, the square marked with a DET still shines brighter than just about any other date.
