Kick off three eclectic new exhibitions at Conduit Gallery on Saturday with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m., showcasing work by North Texas natives Steven J. Miller and Edward Ruiz and Arizona artist John Randall Nelson, three Southwestern artists whose respective styles draw inspiration from European, Asian and East Coast influences, all the while emphasizing unique, cutting-edge perspectives. Nelson’s “fraught simply fraught, with narrative” mixes text and words with gorgeously unsettling images of anthropomorphic animals to explore the role of the artist as a storyteller and narrator, relying on the viewer to “make intuitive sense of disparate parts.” Miller, on the other hand, focuses exclusively on landscapes with special attention to skyscrapers, trains and houses, intermixed with unexpected touches of “islands shaped like thumbs and fantastical twenty-third century architecture.” Ruiz’s “Seen Through a Window” rounds out the collection with the bold blues and violets of hard-lined, geometric cityscapes viewed through a mysterious perspective of a lonely windowpane and highlighted with mixed multimedia, “coupling … digital video mapping and real time sound analysis to seamlessly marry geometric sculpture, music and mathematic technology.” The exhibition will run through February 10 at 1626 Hi Line Drive, Suite C. Conduit is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can call 214-939-0064 or visit conduitgallery.com for more details.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Jan. 10. Continues through Feb. 10, 2012
