Though its title suggests that which is mediocre and expected, Another Dog and Pony Show at 500X Gallery promises instead all the intrigue and allure of … well, a donkey show, without, of course, the zoophilia. An eclectic collaboration of four diverse artists, the exhibition features darkly comical found-art depictions of anthropomorphic animals by Clayton Hurt; intricately layered pieces inspired by the writing of William S. Burroughs by Timothy Harding; rich Americana and “road trip ephemera” from Cool, Texas, to Cool, California, to Cool, Iowa, by photographer Diane McGurren; and installation pieces inspired by 1980s films expressing the “chaos of adolescence [and] the ceremony of girlhood … ranging from campy to creepy, from banal to exceptionally abnormal” by Kerry Pacillio. Enjoy an opening reception on January 14 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 500 Exposition Ave., or check out Dog and Pony on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., through February 5. Visit 500x.org for more details.
Saturdays, Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Jan. 14. Continues through Feb. 5, 2012
