More About

It’s easy to become a jaded, bitter misanthrope when you live in a world teeming with anonymous Internet comments, negative status updates and Fox News. Constant connectivity has done a lot of things for a lot of people, but it also brings out and magnifies the jerks. It’s totally refreshing (and frequently necessary) to unplug for a while, turn off the news feed, step outside and go back to a place of optimism and dreams and community spirit. The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade gives us a full morning of just that — the celebration of a man’s dream that everyone treat everyone else with dignity and respect. It’s about seeing your friends and neighbors and understanding that they, too, have their challenges and hopes … and that theirs aren’t so different from your own. The MLK Jr. Parade starts at the entrance to City Hall, 1500 Marilla St., at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade ends at the entrance to Fair Park. For more information, visit mlkcelebrationdallas.org.
