Some people need a little more than the traditional performance with their classical music. It isn’t enough to have an opera with its extravagant costumes and lavish sets, or to have a ballet with its subtle and precise choreography. Sure, that’s nice, but where is the contortionist stuffing herself in a box? Where are the strong men, oiled up and lifting one another above their heads? That’s where Cirque de la Symphonie comes in, uniting acrobats and aerialists, contortionists and an array of award-winning entertainers performing their weird and impressive feats to such familiar pieces as “Les Toreadors” from Carmen, “Bacchanale” from Samson and Delilah, Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Swans” and, oddly enough, John Williams’ “Across the Stars” from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. The Plano Symphony Orchestra presents this special performance 8:15 pm Saturday, January 21 at The Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive, Richardson.
