The last time I went to a King Khan & the Shrines show, I was sprayed with at least three different fluids and burned myself with a cigarette on purpose. Don't you want that life experience? That's just the voodoo that happens when the R&B big band, led by the inimitable King Khan, burns through their psych-soul revue with the white-hot force of an unmanned fire hydrant. If Soul Train were still around, the Shrines would be the house band, and Khan would be Don Cornelius (Khan Cornelius?). That this show is at Sons of Hermann Hall means there might actually be room for a soul train dance line to happen. Get there early for Miami's Jacuzzi Boys, whose 2009 sleeper LP No Seasons is a damn near perfect psych-pop album. Dallas' the 1969s open.
