More About

The old saying suggests that bad things come in threes, but that couldn’t be less true at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary this week. The MAC invites you to join them at 3120 McKinney Ave. for an opening reception 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the opening of three exhibits. The Large Gallery will feature Baptism by Fire, a retrospective exhibition of acclaimed artist and Bryan native Bill Haveron’s career. Baptism presents work containing “undertones of folk and popular culture” inspired by Haveron’s rural upbringing that “immediately invite[s] the view to decipher reality from fiction.” On the same note, William Powhida — who will be on hand at the opening — brings you Seditionsin the Square Gallery, which explores through graphite, gouache and colored pencil the “truth” behind the “powers that control the assignment of value in the contemporary art world.” In the New Works Space, Jeff Gibbon’s Humming Music and Grinding Teeth brings you an installation, including a video component, on self-identity and the search for personal truth. Call 214-953-1212 or visit the-mac.org for more details.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Starts: Feb. 25. Continues through March 31, 2012
