The literature that starts to fill up your house when you have a little one is one of the best parts of being a parent. Board books, pop-up books, picture books and more fill your shelves, litter the floors and scatter underfoot — each taking the most mundane of topics and giving it magical, ethereal qualities. Saying goodnight becomes a paean to the moon and great green rooms and red balloons; pouting sessions become thrilling adventures; and simple acts come with madcap consequences. For our kids, these books are a comfort and sometimes an escape — and for us, they become a touchstone for the twee, the simple and the endearing. Celebrate the wonderful world of children’s literature during the Dallas Museum of Art’s family-centric Late Night events on March 16, which include a book signing by author Laura Numeroff. The author of the beloved If You Give a Mouse a Cookiewill discuss her new book, The Jellybeans and the Big Art Adventure, at 7 p.m. Reservations are required. Following that will be a 10 p.m. presentation of the film adaptation of kid-lit favorite Where the Wild Things Are. Late Night festivities at the DMA, 1717 N Harwood St., kick off at 6 p.m. Admission to the museum will be $5 for adults and free for children under 12. Visit dallasmuseumofart.org.
