Preview: The Dream at Southside Music Hall

Friday, March 30, at Southside Music Hall

The dominant theme in Terius "The-Dream" Nash's library is love. His albums — Love Hate, Love vs. Money and Love King — declare his passion with raunchy, blithe bravado, but behind the persona, The-Dream is a prolific songwriter and producer, collaborating often with producer Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. His portfolio includes Beyoncé's Grammy-winning bachelorette anthem, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," and Rihanna's landmark singles "Umbrella" and "Hard," as well as banal tracks like Justin Bieber's sugary mega-hit "Baby" and vanity singles for Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian. The music Nash writes for himself is glittery urban pop with homages to R. Kelly ("Love King") and Prince ("Fast Car," "Yamaha"). His upcoming album, Love IV MMXII, promises a new level of self-reflection and more fantastical beats.
