In his new book The Big Miss, golf coach Hank Haney tells a story about how Tiger Woods decided he wanted to be a Navy SEAL a few years back. Apparently, Woods trained with them and even told Haney that the Navy was willing to waive their age restriction for him. And then his wife beat the hell out of him with a golf club and his dream was over. But those badasses upped the ante for Tiger, as they have for many aspiring warriors who wonder if they have it in them to tolerate such intense physical challenges. Tiger’s thrown one too many tantrums, so his mettle is highly questionable, but there are athletes among us who would love to prove that they could be a total badass. Maybe a race with plenty of free beer and fuzzy warrior helmets isn't exactly a great measure of who is worthy of becoming a SEAL, but the obstacles in the 3.24 mile Warrior Dash are pretty serious. The race has flaming pits to jump over, military crawls to conquer, barbed wire to avoid — and that ain’t the half of it. Registration is closed, but you can get out there to scope out the warriors among us and feats that’d have Tiger flinging his nine-iron in fear. Head out to DFW Adventure Park, 13055 Cleveland Gibbs Road in Roanoke, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. Visit warriordash.com for more information.
