Cinephiles, Start Your Celluloid

Not only is 42 the answer to life, the universe and everything, it’s also the number of years the USA Film Festival has been enculturating this city in the ways of cinema arts. Formed in 1971 when American-made cinema was largely uncelebrated, the Dallas-based nonprofit has grown to incorporate special screenings and events throughout the year in addition to its yearly five-day festival honoring both legends of American film and emerging indie auteurs. Running from April 25 through Sunday at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station, this year’s festival pays tribute to the careers of Rob Reiner, Elliot Gould and Bert I. Gordon, in addition to a curated showcase for the best new American films and foreign works and the 34th Annual National Short Film & Video Competition. Tickets for all programs are $10 and can be purchased in advance by calling 214-631-2787 or visiting ticketmaster.com. For scheduling information — including details on several free programs — call 214-821-6300 or visit usafilmfestival.com.
