If it were legal in the state of Texas, the state of Texas would marry itself; in fact, after decades of jealous neighboring states telling the Lone Star State to “get a room” with itself, Tejas has followed suit by putting what is promised to be a “boat load” of emerging homegrown art in the Janette Kennedy Gallery at South Side on Lamar this month. Active-8: A Mini-Ennial in Texas Art, an Ro2 joint curated by Ricardo Paniagua, kicks up Texas’ well-documented self-love as artists from Denton to Brownsville explode all over the gallery, reveling in a collaboration of contemporary sculpture, music, graphic art, painting and more. The show runs through May 5 with an opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. April 27. You can get in on the high-octane high self-esteem at 1409 South Lamar St. Call 214-803-9575 or visit southsideonlamar.com for more details.
Fri., April 27, 6-10 p.m.; Mondays-Sundays. Starts: April 27. Continues through May 5, 2012
