If you’ve spent any amount of time in Addison at all, you know that it’s a perfectly nice town with a lot of office buildings, apartments, and a ton of restaurants — chain restaurants, to be more specific. Of course, there’s a lot of backlash around the chain restaurant these days, and in some ways, deservedly so. Still, while buying local is very virtuous and all, chains serve a purpose. They don’t give you crap about splitting checks between five ladies with five credit cards; they allow for an affordable night out; and nobody at Chili’s is going to give you the stink-eye when you bring a toddler in there. It’s a predictable, sometimes comforting American ritual, and we like to celebrate predictable, comforting rituals in this country. And so, ladies and gentlemen, the Taste of Addison celebration brings us samples from all of our favorite Addison-area standards on May 18, 19 and 20 at Addison Circle Park, 4970 Addison Circle Drive. Try something new or get a bite of an old favorite as you cruise the booths, enjoy carnival rides, and let the kids loose in the Family Fun Zone. The festival also features live music from Rhett Miller and the Serial Lady Killers, Mat Kearney, Wade Bowen and more. Tickets are $5 to $15 and can be purchased at the gate. Visit addisontexas.net for more information. The fest runs 6 p.m-midnight Friday, noon-midnight Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
