Hold up, ascot wearing yacht-clubbers. You're not the only boaters out there. The Fourth Annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival is taking to the water once more with more exotic fare and flair than the average Western-styled boating event. The organization expects as many as 50 dragon boat teams to face off in this traditionally styled boating sport. The association provides the 40 foot long, 500 pound boats, each hosting as many as 24 crew members. If you are a amateur mariner, fear not. Training and practice sessions are held in advance of the race. While the teams make their way across the 250 meter course, less nautical attendees can check out the festival's other attraction, such as Asian dance performances, martial arts demonstrations and a variety of ethnic foods. The Festival sets sail May 20, from 8:30 a.m.-6 pm at Lake Carolyn at Las Colinas and El Lago boulevards in Irving. For additional information visit dfwdragonboatfestival.com.
