More About

For more than 40 years, the CityArts Festival has jam-packed your late spring with more artistic revelry than one Dallasite can handle in a mere three days, so bring friends and strategically plan to shoot iPhone videos to let those poor suckers wearing babies slung around their necks in the children’s area know what they’re missing. (We kid, we hear the children’s area is where they’re making bad-ass origami dolphins.) One highlight of the three-day festival is Art Fest, a juried show that features the works of more than 150 artists exhibiting photography, sculpture, jewelry, woodworking, painting and more. Also on the agenda are film screenings (Grease and American Graffiti) with ’60s-themed dance parties and costumes; a culinary showcase with cooking demos and tastings, wine parings and mixology sessions; art cars; fountain shows on the Esplanade; and more than 50 live shows ranging from rock to belly dancing. The festival is free — though there is a $10 charge for parking within the gates at Fair Park — and all of the museums at Fair Park will offer reduced admissions. The CityArts Festival runs Friday through Sunday. Find details about hours, events and performers at cityartsfestival.com.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: May 25. Continues through May 27, 2012
