If you watch the Texas Theatre premiere of Panos Cosmatos’ Beyond the Black Rainbow, chances are you’re going to need the premiere afterparty. If you don’t watch the film but are meeting up with people who did, you’re going to need the premiere afterparty. Rainbow tells the story (sort of?) of mute and sedated Elena’s escape from a captor (Michael Rogers), who exudes a sort of sinister Catholic school priest vibe, and the bizarre commune of Arboria, which is guarded by creatures George Lucas could’ve created if he ate David Cronenberg. And only then maybe. It’s a sorta-futuristic arthouse mindfuck some may find a poorly played joke and some may find sensational in the end. What will definitely prove successful, however, will be the New Age of Enlightenment party that follows, featuring sets by Pinkish Black and Night Game, with DJ segments by Travis Box and everyone’s favorite quiz master, George Quartz. Admission is $8, or free with a Beyond the Black Rainbow ticket. Visit thetexastheatre.com for more info (and to sneak a peek at the trailer —recommended). Texas Theatre is at 231 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Oak Cliff.
