More About

French composer Maurice Ravel reputedly described his famed work “Bolro” as “a piece for orchestra without music.” Apparently, it was not his favorite creation, but then he died long before Bo Derek introduced the piece (heh) to a whole new generation of classical music aficionados in the movie Ten. It’s doubtful baritone Blas Canedo will get up to anything quite so expressive (he doesn’t have the rack for it) when he performs works by both Ravel and Manuel de Fallas during his “Rising Star Recital” at the 32nd Basically Beethoven Festival, which opens 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Grand Hall in Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park, 3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The Imperial Brass group steps up at 3 p.m., playing a wide range of works from the Renaissance through the 20th century. This weekly event is free. For more information visit fineartschamberplayers.org.
Sun., July 1, 2:30 p.m., 2012
