This is what the 55th season of the Mesquite ProRodeo Series is all about. Well, that and the $21,000 prize at the end of the season. Until then, cowboys and cowgirls face off for points competing in this traditional Western sport. If you are longing to see a real Texas rodeo, but don’t want to deal with the real Texas summer, fear not. Mesquite’s arena is enclosed and air conditioned. This family-friendly event also includes face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo. There are clowns too, but let’s be real. Those dudes are just as likely to freak kids out as anything. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Mesquite ProRodeo, 1818 Rodeo Drive, Mesquite. Tickets start at $10.
