Sweetie Pies and Savory Demons

While it might be hard to top Ed Helms’ farcical rendition of “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” on The Office, we’re stoked to see a local theater “get away with murder” by pulling off the Broadway smash in a big way. As part of its Main Stage Series, Level Ground Arts presents Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street this month at the Trinity River Arts Theatre (formerly KD Studio Theatre). Level Ground’s John De Los Santos directs the macabre musical of a bloodthirsty Victorian stylist seeking revenge and the gruesome secret behind the downstairs shop’s tasty new meat pies. It opens this evening and runs on Fridays and Saturdays through September 1, with each performance beginning at 8:15 p.m. at 2600 N. Stemmons Freeway. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Call or text 972-302-1801 or visit levelgroundarts.com to secure your seat.
Fri., Aug. 10, 8:15 p.m., 2012
