Spinning Wax and Flipping Clay

Not all children have access to a solid, artistic education. Even in the better public schools, the focus has shifted to exam testing and away from creative endeavors. Fortunately local superheroes ArtLoveMagic will not stand by, hands in pockets, watching the most interesting parts of childhood slip away. Nope, instead they bring us workshops like Saturday’s children’s workshop. At Life in Deep Ellum, hundreds of youths will gather to learn about DJing, painting, pottery, poetry, watercolor and even videography. And the best part? It’s totally free (although donations keep these programs rolling). All children ages 6 to 16 can crush their crayons and get as creative and messy as they want to with hands-on help from local working artists. Parents need to stay on site, but Mokah Coffee Bar is right there to help keep you hyper-alert. This free workshop runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Life in Deep Ellum, located on 2803 Taylor St. Visit artlovemagic.wordpress.com.
