As anyone who’s ever been forced to live on a restricted diet can attest, living gluten-free sucks the majority of the time. It’s true. Everything you’ve ever loved, from waffles to pizza dough just vanishes, and most of the quick and easy store-bought substitutes taste like a mean, cardboard joke. The Gluten and Allergy Free Expo says it doesn’t have to be that way. Saturday and Sunday, the expo brings a whole buffet of vendors to you, so you’ll be able to check out the newest and best alternatives — you know, stuff that doesn’t taste like a crunchy envelope, disguised as a pancake. You’ll also find foodie salvation in the expo’s class series, which teaches everything from how to make fluffy pie crust, sans that pesky gluten, to picking out secret gluten from sources that don’t advertise its presence, like a goddamn gluten detective. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3 to 12. It’s happening at the Westin Park in central Dallas (12720 Merit Drive). Visit gfafexpo.com.
