Roger Winter might have escaped his Texas roots by relocating to his current dual residencies (New York and Santa Fe), but we refuse to let go of his art. Last Saturday a solo show of his recent work was unveiled at Kirk Hopper (and runs through October 6), and this Saturday the McKinney Avenue Contemporary helps round out the story of the man whose paintings have spanned five decades with Lost Highway — A Painter’s Journey. The exhibition focuses on paintings created from the ’80s until today, but that isn’t all. Winter also served as an SMU professor for 25 years, so his passion and knowledge spread to many of our brightest talents. Which leads us to the second exhibition launching at the MAC on Saturday, Under the Influence. This linked show presents work by five former students who studied under Winter. Influence looks at their relationships with their mentor while highlighting milestones in their own professional careers. Pop in from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to this free opening.
