More About

The national tour of the Tony-winning drama War Horse is at the Winspear right now, with double matinees on its two Sundays. Based on the 1982 children’s book by Michael Morpurgo, the play tells the story of Joey, a farm horse sold into the British cavalry in WWI and shipped to the battlefields of France. The boy who raised Joey, farmer’s son Albert, sets out to find his beloved friend and bring him home. Co-produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain and South African’s Handspring Puppet Company, the production’s magic is achieved with the use of life-size puppets portraying horses and other animals. Three actors operate Joey using such intuitive equine motion the viewer soon forgets it’s not the real thing. It clocks in at 160 minutes with one intermish, showing at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, then Tuesday through Sunday through September 23 at Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. Call 214-880-0202.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 16. Continues through Sept. 23, 2012
