A 25-year anniversary typically demands an elaborate gift. Silver. An Alaskan cruise. The promise of grandchildren. Such is not the case at the Dallas VideoFest kick-off party, happening 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at AMS Pictures Studios (16986 Dallas Parkway). The long-stay festival has brought you experimental video in every form, from documentary films and narrative features to cutting-edge video art for 25 years, and you don’t have to engrave a single trinket to express your gratitude. In fact, it’s throwing a party for you. (Crazy, I know.) There will be themed rooms filling out the space, spanning those delightful genres Dallas VideoFest is known for producing, and an all-star cast of panelists will be on hand to share fond memories and favorite clips from the course of its history. (Pace yourself at the open bar so you don’t get excessively sentimental.) There will also be a teaser screening of items selected for this year’s VideoFest, which runs from September 27 to 30 at the Dallas Museum of Art. Single tickets are $25, and couples scoot in for $40. That price includes drinks, snacks and a cinematic immersion. Visit eventbrite.com/event/3875922990 to get yours.
