Party at the MoonTower

Patios are holy places in Dallas. They are spots for communion with friends (boozing), absolution from sins (brunch confessions) and sometimes, if we’re really lucky, they’re places to learn about our culture and history (stoner comedies on the big screen). One of the best patios in the city is the rooftop perch at the Sundown, which is why we’ve corrupted its beauty for our own greedy cinematic desires. In honor of this influx of great weather, the Dallas Observer, the Dallas Film Society and the Sundown have teamed up for a new Wednesday night outdoor film series, and on this particular evening, we’ll be showing the Texas-proud stonerific comedy Dazed and Confused. It’s a Linklater classic, and since you already know every word, you won’t stress about sipping your cocktail too loudly while it plays. Besides, they’ve juiced up the experience with a new 14-speaker sound system and a 175-inch screen. And it’s free! YES! Free rooftop films that you love! Every Wednesday night through November 21! Check in with our arts blog, Mixmaster, for each week’s selection (dallasobserver.com/mixmaster). Future picks include Trainspotting, Sid and Nancy and The Big Lebowski. Every film begins at 8 p.m., so get to Sundown at Granada (3520 Greenville Ave.) early to pre-party.
Wed., Oct. 10, 8 p.m., 2012
