More About

Sex, racism, dirty politics, spousal abuse — Shakepeare’s The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice is so full of juicy double-dealing, behind-the-back gossiping and physical violence, it could get its own reality show. It’s one of the Bard’s best, with a beaut of a plot about a white lady, Desdemona, who marries Othello, a black general. Rumor has it she’s “making the beast with two backs” with someone else. Othello, prodded by his aide Iago, seeks revenge, but it all goes horribly wrong. Read in its entirety by local actors, the play is part of the series of monthly readings by Shakespeare Dallas and the AT&T Performing Arts Center, doing all of Shakespeare’s works over the next five years. The reading is 7 p.m. Monday in Hamon Hall at the Winspear Opera House. Tickets are $10 in advance or pay-what-you-can at the door.
