More About

Starck Club, one of the most legendary nightclubs in Dallas history, opened its doors in May of 1984. The club served as an adult playground for celebrities and the who’s who of the decade, and remained the place to be seen from the moment the first feet graced its dance floor until its demise five years later in the summer of ’89. David Byrne, Allen Ginsberg, Prince, Madonna and even Princess Stephanie of Monaco made appearances at the posh yet debauched nightlife spot. While the warehouse space that once housed Starck Club is still standing in Dallas’ West End, the club’s mystique vanished as the ’80s transformed into the ’90s. Now, in an attempt to preserve its history and bring back some of that mystique, two separate documentaries are in the works highlighting Starck Club. Warriors of the Discotheque, directed by Joseph Alexandre, was released in 2011 and The Starck Project directed by Michael Cain is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. On Friday, Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) commemorates the club with a screening of Warriors of the Discotheque followed by a DJ set by Deep Shade, who’ll play songs that once ignited Starck Club’s dance floor. The film starts at 8:30 p.m.
Fri., Oct. 19, 10 p.m., 2012
