More About

At the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival, Last Call at the Oasis opened our eyes to clean water issues, but that was just the beginning. This weekend, the local film industry will tackle the subject on an even bigger scale with FilmMatters, a daylong symposium about film and human rights, with a focus on the global clean-water crisis. Kicking off the event will be a VIP brunch at Ser Steaks + Spirits featuring a conversation with Michael Caine, Larry Hagman and Brigid McConville. After brunch, you should check out the panels — they cover the whats, whys and hows of film’s ability to affect social change. Those doing the paneling include Emmy-nominated filmmakers and PBS executives, and all proceeds benefit the Filmanthropy Fund of the Dallas Foundation. Dip your toes in the water with brunch at 11 a.m., and then dive into panels and chats at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Hilton Anatole, 2201 North Stemmons Freeway. Brunch tickets are $75 and panel tickets are $10. Call 214-458-4807 or visit m3filmsllc.com.
