Before you deck the halls, don your gay apparel and fa-la-la-la-la your way through another holiday season, you need a proper kickoff. Thanksgiving doesn’t count — cleaning up the turkey scraps doesn’t transition one into the Christmas spirit. The appropriate kick-off for all things merry is a full five days before Thanksgiving. From 6 until 10 p.m. Saturday, Downtown Dallas Inc. and the City of Dallas launch the brightest of seasons with the City Lights Opening Night, an event that’s free and open to all. Main Street will be bustling with the sights and sounds of Christmas, including outdoor markets and crafts, face painting for the elves among us and musical performances to amp up the jolly ambiance. Neiman Marcus will unveil its holiday display, including the ever-popular crawl tubes geared toward your little sugarplums. At 7 p.m., a 65-foot tree will be lit at Main Street Garden (1902 Main St.) — and the main man himself, Santa Claus, will make his entrance.
