Being an introvert doesn’t make you unfriendly or a social Grinch. It can, in fact, be a celebrated quality. What it would definitely do, however, would make doing publicity for your new book on introversion a bit of a challenge. Take local author (and occasional Dallas Observer contributor) Sophia Dembling (The Yankee Chick’s Survival Guide to Texas), for instance. The release of her new book, The Introvert’s Way: Living a Quiet Life in a Noisy World, has somewhat ironically brought on a succession of promotional engagements that, while exciting in terms of enterprise, might prove taxing to the sort of person the book is actually about. So, fellow introverts, let us rally. Let us prepare for a night out of our usual routine, with people we don’t know. We don’t have to say hello to one another — and Dembling will certainly understand if you must simply nod in appreciation as she signs your copy, 7 p.m. Thursday at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Park, 7700 W. Northwest Highway, No. 300. Come on now, we should do this for the woman who has provided seemingly endless insight into introverts on Psychology Today, and who is stepping out of her comfort zone for a book reading to please publisher and public alike. You could always take Friday off (introverts, you know what we’re talking about). Call 214-739-1124.
