This Valentine’s Day treat your date (and yourself) to a theatrical extravaganza fit for a Spanish king or queen. The zarzuela, a Spanish mini-opera filled with music, lyric poetry and dance, began as entertainment for royalty in the Middle Ages. On Saturday, The Orchestra of New Spain’sgroundbreaking period production of La Nuevas Armos de Amor (Cupid’s New Weapons of Love)provides those of us who don’t own castles in Madrid and Seville a rare opportunity to witness the forgotten mythical story of Cupid’s arrows (some spiked with love potion and others with poison) in a tale of thievery, deceit and love. Interwoven with sultry Spanish dancing and exquisite period costuming, there’s more than enough romance to go around. The performance takes place in Dallas’ new City Performance Hall located at the corner of Routh and Flora streets in the arts district. Tickets range from $10 to $75. Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 16. Continues through Feb. 16, 2013
