It’s difficult not to channel Portlandia when thinking of the phrase “Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,” but if anything can corral sketches of pushy mailmen, it’s Tuesday’s piece of original work being performed and commissioned by the Dallas Chamber Symphony. Only in its first year of programming, the DCS has kept a tidy, diverse and limited run of offerings — and that minimalist scattershot could be integral to its success. Tuesday, you’ll see one of history’s first horror films, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, get a very modern revamp through an original score by Austin-based composer, Brian Satterwhite. This will be the show’s debut, and I can’t imagine a finer space for its reveal than the new Dallas Performance Hall (2520 Flora St.). There’s a casual conversation with Satterwhite at 6:45 p.m. and showtime is at 7:30. Visit dallaschambersymphony.org and use promo code Caligari25 — that’ll save you a cool 25 percent. General admission tickets range $15 to $38.
