At the height of our economic excesses a few years back, you couldn’t throw a stick in this town without hitting a doggy boutique stocked to the whiskers with canine clothing. For some, this was a way to lavish attention on their fur-children, and you’d frequently see Fido lounging at Pinkberry in his best Burberry. For others, outfitting four-legged friends stripped them of all their dignity — but come on, these are creatures that snack out of the litter box. Either way, the financial constraints handed down over the past five years have relegated doggy duds to mostly special occasions, and the most special of these is the annual Easter in the Park Festival and Pooch Parade at Lee Park (3333 Turtle Creek Blvd.). On Easter morning beginning at 10 a.m. you’ll see the area’s finest mutts strut their stuff in amazing Easter finery. You’ll see bonnets, bunny costumes and, if history serves, pets dyed like PAAS masterpieces. The event features a parade of adoptable critters, followed by a judged procession of costumed canines. If you’re inclined to gussy up your best friend in Easter grass and pastels, fork over $10 and register starting at 11 a.m. Or, just be a bystander and gape at the spectacle. The parade starts at noon. Food, beverages and live entertainment are available until 5 p.m. Visit thestriponcedarsprings.com/events.html for more.
