As the Arts District builds more structures and our museums snag larger sponsorships, we easily see that our art community is growing, along with the market that it’s servicing. But that’s only a portion of the story. That’s a macro view. What we don’t see when we walk the Cindy Sherman exhibition or snag wine from a big gallery opening is the larger pool of working artists, and you know what? They’re the ones doing the heavy lifting. They’re the ones hijacking the playing field and subverting old orders of operations. They’re the ones keeping things interesting, not just collectible. Thursday, you can hear from a handful of those players and chime in with questions as CentralTrak and Green Bandana Group present Not Waiting for Permission, a discussion on the state of the emerging arts in North Texas. It’s free to attend, and runs from 8 to 10 p.m. It goes down at CentralTrak (800 Exposition Ave.). Visit facebook.com/greenbandanagroup/events.
