In the case of burlesque, you may not think that venue is all that important. Professional movers and shakers could tease and reveal just about anywhere, and you’d be hooked, right? But the vaudevillian roots of burlesque have a special kinship with atmosphere. There’s something about a place with character that really ups the theatrics of the art form. That’s why it’s in your best interest to be front and center for the Nouvelle Burlesque Revue at the historic Texas Theatre, 231 W. Jefferson St., at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Watching performers like Austin gals Ruby Joule and Goldie Candela and Dallas’ own La Davina and Blaze perform onstage is a nostalgic, glamorous journey filled with slapstick, spectacle and the music of the Dallas Opera’s Damon Clark and his jazz trio. It’s a downright classy affair, housed in a joint that has highlighted its fair share of silver-screen sirens and grand dames. Tickets for the evening are available for $25 online at prekindle.com.
