Into Something Good

Dallas’ population density can be an asset, or it can be a point of division because as we pack in tighter, we seem to know fewer neighbors. But imagine if we did: If we unified our voices, talents and passions to improve the area we inhabit, we could create utopia. Dallas is what we choose to make it. GOOD Magazine agrees, and it’s been organizing pacifistic foot soldiers here for the last year, gathering Dallas’ most driven go-getters. You’ll join them on Thursday as a free panel for improving Dallas materializes at Garden Cafe (5310 Junius St.). Speakers include Susie Marshall from the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, who’ll be rappin’ about food; Brandon Castillo from Deep Ellum Outdoor Market, waxin’ on visitor engagement; Byron Sanders of the Dallas Education Foundation gives insights on learning trends; artist, activist and all-around aesthetic rabble rouser Erica Felicella discusses expression; and a yet-to-be-named speaker will talk about recreation. More important, it’s a chance to explore our groupthink and identify paths to city betterment as we troll the okra blossoms and Mondrian-inspired chicken coop at Garden Cafe. It’s free to attend this 7 to 8:30 p.m. event. Visit buildastrongerdallas.eventbrite.com, or call Garden Cafe at 214-887-8330.
