"'Grow up, get old and die miserable' is the depresso mucho message of this musical." I'm sorry, but I think this reviewer completely missed the message, if this was her take on it. The moral point of the musical was just the opposite; that it's okay to grow old into adulthood. It's okay to grow up and a) remember what it was to be a child, and b) face the world of grown-ups with confidence and understanding. Having Wendy front-and-center makes this a more-than-2D version of a classic tale--that normally employs stock villains and trite heroes. It becomes about learning to carry on through the hardships of younger life and into womanhood. FLY was truly fantastic.
